5 days off info en geschiedenis
5 days off is een stadsfestival voor elektronische muziekfestival en gelieerde disciplines als audio-visuele kunst, fotografie en film. Op muzikaal gebied brengt het festival een cutting edge programma waarin gerenommeerde namen en aanstormende nieuwelingen elkaar aanvullen. Van minimal en techno langs hiphop en soul t ot aan electro en live-acts: 5 days off geeft een zo divers mogelijk beeld van de ontwikkelingen binnen de verschillende genres. Het festival heeft daarmee zowel nationaal als internationaal een sterke reputatie opgebouwd bij zowel bezoekers als artiesten.
Het festival speelt zich af rondom het uitgaanshart van Amsterdam: het Leidseplein. Met de Melkweg en Paradiso betrekt 5 days off jaarlijks twee wereldwijd beroemde popodia, terwijl het NIMk (Nederlands Instituut voor Mediakunst) een gerenommeerde instelling voor Mediakunst betreft is. Gezamenlijk huisvesten zij het festival waarvan zij, samen met Mojo Concerts, gelijkwaardige partners in zijn.
5 days off is in 2001 begonnen als het Amsterdamse zusje van het Genste 10 days off, een onderdeel van de Gentse feesten. 5 days off begon destijds in de Melkweg met artiesten als Luke Slater en Michel de Hey. Ondertussen is 5 days off uitgegroeid tot een zelfstandig festival met een eigen identiteit en programmering. De editie in juli 2009 heeft ruim 20 duizend unieke bezoekers getrokken en had meer dan 100 dj's, producers en live-acts op het programma staan.
5 days off history
5 Days off developed as a spin-off of the 10 days off festival in Ghent and was the first multi-day indoor dance event in the Netherlands. Over the past years, the festival programming has gained in bandwidth considerably. The effort to offer a high-quality cross-cut of international electronic music has returned itself and built 5 days off a strong national and international reputation. It has grown out of a fairly small festival in the Amsterdam Melkweg into a true city-wide festival, which now also involves Paradiso and the Dutch Institute for Media Arts.
Age requirements 5 days off
Both Melkweg and Paradiso have certain rules regarding the minimum age of their visitors. For regular liveconcerts and programs you have to be at least 16 years old or under the guidance of an adult (18+). For late night programmes (start 22.00 and later) you have to be at least 18 years old.
